Sr. Regina's Letter

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I begin this beautiful month of May with a special prayer to the Blessed Mother for you and your family. I truly believe that Immaculata enjoys a special place in Divine Providence because of her intercession. I encourage you to call on her and trust her with your intentions whatever they may be!

During the next 31 days IHS will be humming to the tune of many activities. Our Seniors are ready to move on – but before they do, there will be many occasions to celebrate their accomplishments and class spirit. Senior parents should already have a schedule of these events from the April 23rd meeting. The challenge for our young people will be to keep focused on academics in school and make good choices socially when they are out with friends. Poor performance on the final report card could impact their graduation eligibility and/or their status with regard to college acceptance. This applies to those already accepted as well as those on wait lists. Please be their parent and do not weaken with the argument of what other parents are doing or allowing. Set limits on their being out on school nights. On the weekends, know where they are going, what they are doing, and with whom. You Spartan parents can be a tremendous support for each other if you communicate with each other and have common expectations about your son’s/daughter’s activities and behavior. Your child’s accountability to you applies to underclassmen as well as to Seniors. Our students’ education and academic success is important; their safety and moral character formation are non-negotiable.

We have some good news to report to you: Mrs. Erin Palma, Spanish 1 and 2 teacher, has a new baby boy, Louis Patrick, and will be home with him for the rest of the school year. Mr. Tim Keene has joined our faculty as a long-term substitute for her. Also, you may be aware that some concerns were raised by the NJ Department of Health and Senior Services about the quality of synthetic athletic fields. Our consultants on the Field of Dreams have assured us that there is no known health factor on our turf that could pose a danger to our students.

Before closing, I would like to extend a sincere thank you to the men and women, students and parents who made the Spartan Club’s annual Fashion Show such a success this year. Though I have never been there, I understand even the weather cooperated with a hint of the warmth of Tuscany in the air! Without your generosity of time, your presence at events, and your love for this school the financial support would make little difference. It is who you are when you give the things you do that make for the unique spirit which is Immaculata. I am most grateful!

Enjoy the beauty of the days that are upon us. Happy Mother’s Day to all you Moms.

God bless you, your families, and those you love. Please keep IHS, her faculty and staff in your prayers.

Sincerely,

Sister Regina M. Havens, IHM

The following is very important information if your child is planning to participate in ANY interscholastic sport or cheerleading at Immaculata
during the 2008-2009 school year…

Before a student can tryout, practice, or compete in an Immaculata sport, a sports physical examination and participation consent form must be completed after June 1 of this year – and received in the Athletic Trainer’s office no later than Friday, August 8, 2008.
It is strongly advised that you schedule the doctor’s appointment NOW for after June 1, 2008. Physicals done prior to June 1st, will not clear your student for the full school year. Remember, our NEW color coded exam forms and consent forms are the only acceptable forms you may use, and these forms must be received prior to August 8, 2008. We will personally hand these forms to students on Friday, May 30, 2008. Your student will have many opportunities to pick up an extra set of forms before the end of the school year.
If your forms are misplaced during the summer, extra sports physical forms will be available on the left wall inside the main entrance. Please remember that the summer hours for the main office are 9 am to 1 pm.

SUMMER SPORTS CAMPS: All summer camp & clinic descriptions, dates, and registration forms are available on the athletic website: WWW.IHSATHLETICS.COM. All camps listed are beginning to fill up – if you are interested in attending Spartan summer camps please send in your forms as soon as possible.

If you are interested in joining a team, a mandatory clinic at Immaculata will be held May 5, 7, 8 (no clinic on May 6th), and the tryout date is May 12. If there are any questions, email head coach Stacy Kline at: Lbi2@aol.com or call the Athletic Office.

For Daily Athletic Events – Please call Ext. 138. This line will be updated after 11 a.m. on a good weather day and not before 1:30 p.m. on a poor weather day. IF SCHEDULES CHANGE DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS, THE ATHLETIC WEBSITE WILL BE UPDATED IMMEDIATELY: WWW.IHSATHLETICS.COM.
