All students receive a minimum of 30 hours of instruction in driver education.

Classroom instruction includes:
  • Mental attitudes and physical characteristics related to driving.
  • Effects of motor vehicle on modern life.
  • Laws and regulations affecting the use of cars.
  • Characteristics of streets and highways.
  • Understanding the automobile and its maintenance.
  • Developing driving skills:responsibility of driver for safety.
  • Competency test at the conclusion of the course.

The planned four-year physical education program is designed to assist the students in achieving and maintaining a desirable level of physical fitness. It strives to promote an understanding of the relationship between regular physical activity and health. The program provides sports, games, and various physical activities that promote self-confidence, the ability to work within a group, mutual respect, and a competency for participation in lifetime sports.

STUDENTS MUST PASS 2 OUT OF 3 MARKING PERIODS WITH AN AVERAGE GRADE OF 70 OR MORE IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION TO PASS FOR THE YEAR.

HEALTH

CREDITS

The state required health courses are planned to help every student acquire good health habits and an understanding of the conditions necessary for maintaining physical and emotional well-being. Ninth grade emphasizes the effects that drugs, alcohol, and tobacco have on each person as well as the role they play in society. Also studied are the major sexually transmitted diseases and their effects on today's young people. Eleventh grade emphasizes first aid treatment for home and society. Twelfth grade studies sexually transmitted diseases including but not limited to syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, genital herpes, genital warts, hepatitis A, B, and C, pubic lice, scabies, and HIV?AIDS and the effects on today's young people and society in general. A major health project is a required part of the Health IV curriculum. A passing grade in each year's health course is required for graduation.
