Guidance Mission Statement

The Guidance Department at Immaculata High School is designed to provide counseling in academic, emotional, and interpersonal development. We believe in a program that is proactive in nature with a focus on each student's potential for growth within the context of his or her individual and family perspective.

Pupil Assistance Committee

The purpose of the Pupil Assistance Community is to assist students with academic, personal and spiritual matters as they relate to their school performance. PAC is a pre- and post-intervention resource, proactive in its intent. Each member is thoroughly oriented to problems of drug, steroid and alcohol use as well as other serious emotional problems that young people may experience

COIN3

This is an Internet product. The purpose of this program is to help the student begin the process of data collecting for career/college search starting in the freshman year and culminating in the senior year with resume builders, college /scholarship searches, and financial aid.

To access the Coin Career Community, please follow these instructions closely.

1. Make sure that you are using Internet Explorer 5.0+ or Netscape Communicator 6.0+ as your web browser.
2. Open your browser and link to http://www.community.coin3.com
3. Enter your child's username + p, enter your child's password + p and the site ID (nj13167)
4. Click the check box to indicate that you are a parent user.
5. Click SUBMIT LOGIN.
6. In the event that you lose or forget your username/password, please contact Mr. Roarty @ 908-722-0200 ext. 120.
7. Be sure to .Logout. by clicking the Log Out tab to the upper right of the screen before you close the browser.

Choices for Change

'Growing up' can present all kinds of life situations that may interfere with a child's performance in and out of school. Illness, loss through death, separation, divorce, peer pressure and academic difficulties are just a few of the natural events occurring in the lives of many children today.

Peer Mediation/Conflict Resolution

This program supports the mutual respect policy of Immaculata. Students are trained to help their peers to resolve conflicts in order to maintain a safe and respectful environment for our students and faculty

REBEL Program

Reaching Everyone by Exposing Lies.

The mission of the REBEL movement is to reach, educate and empower New Jersey youth to make healthy lifestyle decisions and to support non-smoking as the social norm.

Our REBEL Chapter has monthly meetings as well as planning 5 major events throughout the year.

Students Against Destructive Decisions

SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) is a national organization founded in 1982. The mission of SADD is to change behaviors through education and prevention efforts. SADD students are committed to leadership, communication, and teamwork. The Immaculata SADD chapter is open to any student, and at the present time our active membership represents over 50% above the student population.

Students Against Destructive Decisions Activities



Membership Drive

During the last week of September, the SADD Executive Board runs a membership Drive. Leaders of the organization set up a table in each lunch-room to invite students to join SADD. The senior members visit each freshman homeroom to explain our programs. New members are given a membership card with the Contract for Life on the back.

Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week is a week to acknowledge the fight against drugs. It began because a D.E.A. (Drug Enforcement Agent named Enriques Camarena ) was killed in the war against drugs.

Safety Belt Awareness

Our SADD organization stresses the importance of safety belts. We offer public service announcements, and sponsor a Safety Belt Awareness Day where the Executive Board Members spot check cars at drop off points around campus. The students wearing their seat belts are rewarded. A visit from our Immaculata Crash Test Dummy is a highlight.

Drunk Driving Education, Club Drug Prevention, Tobacco Prevention, Signs of Depression

Throughout the school year the Immaculata SADD chapter sponsors speakers to come to our school and discuss relevant issues affecting the students.

Mock Car Crash and Mock Trial

With the help of the Somerville Rescue Squad, The Somerset County Prosecutors Office, The Somerville Police Department, The Immaculata SADD chapter conducts a mock car crash. After the car crash a mock trial is conducted prosecuting the student drunk driver. This elaborate SADD event occurs every four years.

Fatal Vision Goggles

The SADD Executive Board will visit each homeroom and demonstrate our Fatal Vision Goggles. The students get an idea for what it feels like to be under the influence. A video on Drunk Driving is shown with a discussion of the myths of alcohol to follow.

Prom Pledge Signing

Each year before the Junior and Senior Proms, the SADD Organization offers the students the opportunity to sign the Contract for Life.

Drunk Driving Awareness Week

Each year during the month of April the SADD organization offers a week of awareness on the dangers of drunk driving. The students prepare public service announcements, and various pertinent activities are planned.
