What is the HSPT?

The High School Placement Test (HSPT) is an assessment used by many Catholic high schools throughout the country and a required part of the admissions process for high schools in the Diocese of Metuchen. The exam is approximately 2.5 hours long. The format of the test is multiple choice. Students are tested on reading, sentence completion, verbal skills, spelling and vocabulary, and quantitative skills. Students can only take the HSPT one time so thorough preparation is critical. The HSPT prep course offered at Immaculata High School prepares students for all areas of the exam.
Pick from Two Options:
Option 1 - HSPT Testing & Early Acceptance: Students who enroll in the course and take the HSPT on the last day are eligible for our Early Acceptance Program. Admissions decisions will be mailed by the end of August to students who select this option and complete the Application for Admission by August 2. This option is for students who have made Immaculata their First Choice High School.
Please note that offers of admission and/or academic merit scholarships made through the Early Acceptance program must be accepted by November 1, 2024.
Option 2 - Pre-HSPT Only: Attend the HSPT Prep Course and take the Pre-HSPT on the last day of the course. This option is best for students who would like more time to prepare to take the HSPT in the fall.
The cost of the course is $225 and includes all materials, instruction, and the HSPT or pre-HSPT.
Enrollment in the Summer HSPT Prep course is limited to 50 students.
