Spartan8

Welcome to the Spartan8 Program!

The Spartan8 Program at Immaculata High School is a reclass opportunity designed specifically for students who have successfully completed eighth grade but wish to take a purposeful pause before entering the traditional high school track.

This unique program is ideal for students who may benefit from an additional year to:

  • Strengthen academic foundations

  • Build stronger study skills and time management habits

  • Grow in maturity—socially, emotionally, and spiritually

  • Gain confidence before beginning high school coursework

Why Spartan8?

Spartan8 isn’t about repeating a year—it’s about reimagining it. Students are part of the Immaculata community from day one, with access to:

  • A supportive, values-based Catholic school environment

  • A tailored curriculum that meets students where they are

  • Individualized attention and small class sizes

  • Opportunities for leadership, service, and enrichment

This intentional year prepares students to transition into high school with the tools, mindset, and confidence they need to succeed.

Meet Bryce, Our First "Spartan8" Student!

What made you decide to apply to the Spartan8 program?

I decided to apply to the Spartan8 program because it aligned closely with my goals of strengthening my academic foundation while creating stronger study skills and growing deeper in my faith. It also provided me with a strong curriculum specific to my needs and goals and allowed me to enter the great Spartan community.

What were you hoping to gain from the experience?

I saw this program as an opportunity to become more mature — academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually—while preparing for the rigor of high school. I hoped to become more adjusted to a new environment so that I could excel as soon as I started my freshman year.

Has Spartan8 helped you feel more prepared for high school? In what ways?

Yes, I believe the Spartan8 helped me gain confidence and develop the skills I needed before entering my true freshman year in the class of 2029. I was able to continue on an accelerated math track while taking foundational electives and participating in the Marian Scholars program, all of which exposed me to the rigors of an honors course load. Ever since my first day at Lata Living, I felt immediately part of the Immaculata community, despite being the only member of the original Spartan8 program. I was able to develop long-lasting friendships with students and supportive relationships with teachers and staff that will stay with me throughout the remaining 4 years of high school and beyond.

What activities did you participate in while in the Spartan8 program?

The most valuable experience I had was the ability to be immersed in the Marian Scholars Program. This experience as a Spartan8 allowed me to collaborate with other high school-level students as well as teacher mentors on how to research and prepare my slides presentation at the Marian Scholars Symposium in May on the different ways radiation affected the environment. From an activity standpoint, I was also able to participate in engaging clubs such as Chess Club, Catholic Athletes, and Pro-Life Club.

What are your goals for high school?

My goals for high school include continuing within the Marian Scholars program as well as coursework in AP Capstone and the opportunity to take college classes. I plan to compete as a Spartan athlete in the Cross Country and Track & Field sports programs. I want to continue to expand my engagement in community outreach within Campus Ministry, already having the privilege of volunteering with Christmas in Appalachia 2025 this past December. Finally, I hope to hold leadership roles in Academic Clubs as well as the many honor societies. My goal after IHS is a 4-year college majoring in Biomedical Engineering. I feel confident that my 5 years at Immaculata High School will prepare me to achieve this goal.
