A three-sport athlete, Darren Pohorenec '86 collected 9 Varsity letters over his Spartan career. Baseball was his banner sport where he was 19-6 as a pitcher and made All-State parochial, All Somerset, and All Centra Jersey. His versatility as a player in his senior year was displayed in his .443 batting average, 72 strikeouts, 5 home runs, 1 grand slam, and 12 stolen bases. He went on to be a relief pitcher at St. John's University, posting an l.27 ERA on the 1988 Big East championship team. In addition, at Immaculata, he played basketball on the 1986 Somerset County Championship team and was a starter for two State Championship football teams.
