IHS Principal

Sr. Mary L. Birster IHM is the longest-serving principal in the schoolʼs history; her tenure went from 1991-2005. Under Sr. Maryʼs leadership, along with the extraordinary support of School Director Msgr. J. Nevin Kennedy, Immaculata earned Blue Ribbon status, expanded its campus from one to three buildings with major additions to the science labs, music rooms, and athletic facilities with two capital campaigns topping millions of dollars, created the Campus Ministry Office, added a technology component to its educational services, and emerged as an athletic powerhouse in the area.

Her vision, kindness, and positive energy, as well as her devotion to all IHS students, endeared her to the parents over her 16 years. Sr. Mary remembers Immaculata as a special place, full of tenderness and warmth and Immaculata remembers Sr. Mary as one of the key people who made it so.
