Comparing Ship Technology: Columbus’ Ships Versus Ships of Today

Bernie and Mrs. WhiteBernard ‘Bernie’ Senger IV won the local chapter DAR Christopher Columbus essay contest. He is the DAR Camp Middlebrook winner. Mrs. Erika White, representative of the DAR, in a colonial costume awarded Bernie his certificate and his monetary award. His entry, a thousand-word essay, titled, Comparing Ship Technology: Columbus’s Ships versus Ships of Today. The Daughters of the American Revolution sponsor a contest annually in honor of Christopher Columbus. Bernie’s essay included technical facts about vessels from both eras with his interpretations and comparisons. Bernie’s essay then went on to the state competition and again he placed in the finals, he was awarded third place in the state of New Jersey. Bernie and the other winners will be honored March 29, 2019 in a formal dinner and reception at the Hyatt Regency in Princeton. Bernie, a junior at Immaculata High School and a resident of Califon, faced stiff local and state competition. Mrs. White said that the local judges were immediately impressed with his essay, his grasp of the topic and his writing style.
