Project Based Learning Assignment—Student planned, researched and presentation of WWII in chronological form.

US History II students, Honors and College Prep, working on a Project Based Learning assignment are creating World War II Timelines. Each group chose a specific area, European Theater, Pacific Theater, The Home Front and The Weapons of War. Spanning the time period that the US was involved in the war students are highlighting and detailing what they perceive as the most important aspects of World War II. The timeline banners are 6 feet long and the students will present them when they are completed. Each group is also required to find a ‘unique’ story, a personal story of a soldier, civilian or event that is not well known and present that to the class—using a poster to highlight it. For example, Brooke Stauffenburg, a junior, shares the same name and is possibly related to the man behind the assassination attempt on Hitler, this is the story her group will be presenting. This is a self-grading project, each team will grade themselves and their teammates. It should be noted that several students already have a great interest and knowledge of World War II, many cited hours of watching the History Channel with their parents.
