Kevin, son of Jack and Faith Cust, was one of the finest sluggers ever at Immaculata. A technician in the batter’s box, Cust made opposing pitchers cringe when he came to the plate. Cust’s power was always on display on the largest stages. In the 2000 Somerset County Tournament Final, Cust launched a home run in the first high school game ever played at what is currently TD Bank Park, to propel Immaculata to its fourth straight county title. In another memorable game, Cust took Edison High School’s Bobby Brownlie, one of the best pitchers in the country, out of the park to lead the Spartans to a 1-0 victory. His majestic shots, of which there were 33 in his illustrious career, a state record at the time, only told part of the story of the dominant type of player and the special kind of person Kevin was and remains today. 

A first-team Parade All-American as a senior, Cust led the Spartans to a number one state ranking for most of his senior season. Kevin hit an amazing .588 average that year, and as the catcher and field general, he was instrumental in the success of one of the best pitching staffs ever at Immaculata.

The defining characteristic of Kevin Cust was diligence. He never left the gym, the cages, or the diamond. This hard work combined with his God-given talent made Cust attractive enough for the Braves to take him in the 11th round of the 2000 amateur draft. Kevin Cust now works at the Jack Cust Baseball Academy and has recently been named to the North Hunterdon High School baseball staff.
