Bob SuttonBob Sutton arrived at Immaculata as a new physical education teacher and assistant football coach in September 1969, after attending Appalachian State University. He immediately stepped in as a varsity line coach after another assistant fell ill. Thus began Bob’s career here spanning 41 years.

Bob’s legacy is built around his tireless efforts coaching linebackers, coordinating defenses, and grooming linemen. In addition, Bob has earned the utmost respect from those he has taught and coached. Many alums who played on the football team claim that their fondest memories are those times that were spent under Coach Sutton’s guidance and leadership. Coach Sutton earned their undying respect and admiration due to his efforts, knowledge, skillful direction, and ability to teach techniques and strategies. Coach Sutton was able to reward his players by providing “pancakes” for big hits and helmet decals for the team and personal achievements. He is an inspiration to many who have participated as well as those who still do.

Coach Sutton also coached basketball at Immaculata from the early 1970s to 1994. His most memorable season was 1984-1985 when Immaculata won the County Tournament. He was regarded as one of the best softball umpires in NJ for several years. In addition, he was inducted into the New Jersey Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2009. His family includes wife Nina, daughter Michele, son Matt, and three grandchildren.
