Drama Program

The Performing Arts Department is proud to offer students three drama courses throughout the academic year. These courses introduce and emphasize many aspects of theatrical arts. We emphasize creativity, collaboration, and perseverance. Areas covered in depth include: theater vocabulary, roles in the theater, movement, acting, the reading of plays, theater design and tech, viewing theater performances, and studying the aspects of professional theater on a much higher level. Students will be creating projects throughout the year just as they would encounter in the professional theater world. Participation in a drama performance will be possible as well at the discretion of the teacher.

Each year, the Immaculata Performing Arts Department is proud to present its annual fall play and spring musical. The completed musical is a full scale production that is entirely student run. It is comprised of students with diverse backgrounds who are involved in the cast, crew, or pit orchestra. Auditions for the fall play take place in September with rehearsals occurring between September through early December. Auditions for the musical take place in November with the rehearsals occurring between January through early March. All culminate in the final performances that happen over two weekends in early to mid March. No experience is necessary!

Immaculata also participates in Paper Mill Playhouse’s Rising Star Awards, The Central Jersey Marquee Awards, the Montclair Foxy Awards, and the Bergen Performing Arts Center High School Theater Awards. These programs award high schools in New Jersey for their outstanding accomplishments in theater; this includes both individual awards and group awards to cast, crew, and pit orchestra.
