SOMERVILLE – Cold Fusion Team 1279, the robotics team for Immaculata High School, will host a day-long clothing drive from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on Dec. 10 to benefit those in developing countries in need of clothing.

Combining their STEM-based skills with a desire to serve others, members of the team will be on hand to volunteer throughout the clothing drive, collecting bags of clothing and loading them into a truck for shipment.

Through the clothing drive, the team will accept items in good and usable condition, including: clothes and shoes of all sizes, though no winter items or high heels will be accepted; accessories such as belts, purses, backpacks, and ball caps; toys that measure no more than 14 inches; and household linens, such as bedsheets, bedspreads, blankets, curtains, and towels. All items for donation should be bagged in white kitchen bags no larger than 13 gallons. If large black bags are used, items should be evenly distributed to avoid heavy bags.

For each pound of usable donations collected, the robotics team will earn funds which they will use to help further their build for their early-January through late-February build season and leading to their March and April competition season.

The Cold Fusion 1279 robotics team at Immaculata High School was established in 2004. Each year, the team builds a robot with which to compete, employing real-world engineering skills and problem-solving skills. The team has won two regional championships and has been named a finalist and semi-finalist a number of times.
