The family of the late Sister Mary Dee Ellis, IHM ’91 has established a memorial scholarship at Immaculata High School in Somerville. In addition to honoring her memory, the family hopes it inspires others to carry on her commitment to Catholic education and service to others. The very generous scholarship of $10,000 for a rising Immaculata senior is awarded each spring. To qualify, one must reflect the values and example of Sister Mary Dee, IHM, with a particular emphasis on the unique elements of her character. She was recognized for her kindness, compassion, peacefulness, joy, and thoughtfulness, as well as her strong faith commitment, and dedication to service, especially to the poor.

Honoring the memory of Sister Mary Dee, IHM at the Annual May Crowning Mass, Immaculata congratulates the 2022 recipient of the Sister Mary Dee Ellis, IHM Memorial Scholarship, Sarah Nichols.

Like Mary Dee, Sarah excels in all areas of music and her commitment to Immaculata is incredibly strong.  She stars as a percussionist and vocalist for our marching band. She performs in a number of Immaculata vocal ensembles and is a Region and All-State choral performer.  Sarah also shines on the stage in our spring musicals.  In addition to her Music Department activities, Sarah shows her commitment to our pillar of Service through her work with Campus Ministry. This year, she serves on the Campus Ministry Board and before this year is over, she will have surpassed 100 hours of service.  She does all of this while taking a number of challenging courses, including those affiliated with the Rutgers Health Science Careers program.
