Graduation Events 2020

Good afternoon Senior Spartans and Parents/Guardians!

As promised in my last correspondence, I would like to share more details regarding how Immaculata High School plans to honor the Class of 2020 at this time with a virtual commencement ceremony and activities immediately surrounding it. Keep in mind that we will have a community celebration when state regulations allow for them.

Before I do so, I would like to address the question that has come to me as the overriding question on most people’s minds, “Why can’t we wait to have graduation at a later date?” The short answer is that we must work within the parameters set forth by the Diocese of Metuchen. Based on the guidelines provided, Msgr. Brennan and the administrative team have decided to hold the Baccalaureate Mass and the Commencement Ceremony on the dates originally scheduled for these events.

An overview of the key events is as follows:

Baccalaureate Mass:

  • Thursday, May 28, 2020 at 6:00 PM
  • Live Streamed

Virtual Commencement Ceremony:

  • Friday, May 29, 2020
  • 5:30 PM: All Class Zoom in Caps & Gowns (15 minutes)
  • 6:00 PM: Presentation begins (link will be provided)

Class of 2020 Web Page on IHS Website:

To help share information regarding these events and more, we have created a Class of 2020 web page. You can access this page by going to the Immaculata home page. From there, scroll down and click on the second box inside the large blue box to the right of the Upcoming Events. Visit frequently for updates. However, if an important notification is released, a text will be sent notifying you that something significant has been posted.

Honor Society Cords, Medals, and Stoles:

Students in the various honor societies will be asked to come by early next week to pick up their cords, medals, and stoles for graduation. You will receive a separate email outlining the details.

Parade of Graduates and Awarding of Diplomas:

The Parade of Graduates and Awarding of Diplomas will be like no other! Stay tuned for more information.

Yearbook Distribution:

Due to the coronavirus, production on yearbooks was delayed. We anticipate their arrival within the first two weeks of June. As soon as we are notified of the expected date of receipt, we will be in touch on how we will proceed.

Some Extras:

A banner is hanging outside the front entrance of the school telling the community that we love our Spartans 2020! Special lettering will be displayed in the windows of the cafeteria soon. We are waiting for the printed materials to arrive. Other cool things will be shared on the website. Keep visiting.

Wednesday and Thursday of this week and Tuesday and Wednesday of next week:

Please watch your emails for Zoom gatherings that will be taking place on these days. We hope you will participate as a means to connect with your classmates in different groups. A few of the meetings will be mandatory as they will serve as graduation practice and provide important graduation information.

Fear not, Class of 2020! You, of course, will go out in Spartan style! You did it, let’s celebrate it! Remember, when state and diocesan parameters allow it, we will gather as a community to honor our seniors one more time in the physical presence of one another. Something to look forward to! But let us not miss this opportunity to capture your graduation moment with an immediate ceremony designed for the times. May 29 is around the corner. Let the countdown begin and the anticipation build!

Peace and blessings,
Ms. Silo
