Immaculata Advances with Commanding 30–6 Win Over St. Thomas Aquinas in Diocesan Showdown

Under the lights at Torpey Field on Friday night, Immaculata Football opened its postseason run with a statement win, defeating St. Thomas Aquinas 30–6 in a diocesan showdown that showcased Spartan toughness on both sides of the ball.
The Spartans set the tone early when senior Daysir Spille (#8) intercepted a pass in the red zone on the Trojans’ opening drive, halting a potential scoring threat and shifting momentum firmly toward Immaculata. The defense fed off that early spark, holding St. Thomas Aquinas scoreless through the first half and sending the Spartans into the locker room with a 13–0 lead.
Spille was the engine of the offense all night, powering through tackles and grinding out 190 rushing yards on 28 carries with three touchdowns. His combination of vision and power defined the game’s rhythm and wore down the Aquinas defense.

Sophomore Brian Cilento (#9) provided a strong complement in the backfield, rushing for 69 yards on nine carries and making one of the game’s defining defensive plays in the third quarter — forcing a fumble on a deep STA pass as the Trojans threatened to score. Quinn Hayden added another interception for the Spartans, whose defense dictated the tempo and kept Aquinas from finding any consistent rhythm.

Immaculata extended its lead to 30–0 in the fourth quarter before a late Trojans touchdown made it 30–6. The win improves the Spartans to 9–2 on the season and sends them to the NJSIAA Non-Public B Quarterfinals at Paramus Catholic, this Friday at 7 p.m. in Paramus.
With a relentless ground attack, an opportunistic defense, and growing playoff confidence, the Spartans are proving they belong among New Jersey’s elite in Non-Public B. This Friday presents another test as they travel to face a top-20 team in the state — a certified New Jersey powerhouse in the Paramus Catholic Paladins.
