The Immaculata Spartans wrestling team delivered a historic performance this week, capturing the Somerset County Tournament championship for the first county title in school history. Even more impressive, the Spartans achieved this milestone in just the third season of the program, establishing themselves as one of the fastest-rising wrestling teams in the county.
Immaculata finished the tournament with 221.5 team points, powered by depth, dominance, and consistency across the lineup. The Spartans placed eight wrestlers into the finals, crowning six county champions, while adding two second-place and two third-place finishes to secure the team crown.
Freshman Trevin Highton delivered one of the standout performances of the tournament, earning Most Outstanding Wrestler honors after defeating a top-eight state-ranked opponent in his championship bout. His victory symbolized both the present success and the promising future of the Spartans program.
Senior leader Ryan Goldstein continued his reign at the county level, winning his third consecutive Somerset County title, while Nate Keller added to his résumé by capturing his second straight county championship. First-time county champions Forest Rose, Rhett Washleski, and Grant Thompson each claimed gold medals, showcasing the program’s growing depth and development.
Adding valuable team points, Derek Sutphen and Anthony Lopez battled their way to second-place finishes, while Landan Riddell and Daniel Cabarcas rounded out the scoring with third-place performances.
This championship marks a defining moment for Immaculata wrestling—a program built on hard work, belief, and rapid growth. Winning a county title so early in its existence is a testament to the athletes’ dedication and the culture being built within the Spartan wrestling room.
With history now made, the Spartans have firmly announced themselves as a powerhouse in Somerset County—and this milestone may only be the beginning.
