Under the guidance of "Mathletes" coordinator Mr. Castellano, Immaculata students have the opportunity to demonstrate and develop their mathematical skills through six monthly contests given by the American Scholastic Mathematics Association (ASMA). With four contests down and only two remaining for this academic year, one of our students, freshman Max Hagman, has already made an outstanding accomplishment!
So far, Max has an aggregate score of 28, making him one of only 20 students to achieve a perfect score at this point in the junior division of the ASMA competition. This is a remarkable achievement, especially for a freshman, and his contributions have helped move our school into 3rd place in New Jersey.
Max's performance reflects not only strong mathematical ability, but also poise under pressure and a willingness to engage with challenging material. This achievement highlights both Max’s dedication to his studies and the strength of Immaculata’s academic program. We are proud to celebrate Max as our Highlight of the Week and look forward to seeing how he continues to grow as a student and leader in the math community.
The ASMA competition is a long-standing national mathematics contest that challenges students with rigorous, multi-step problems that go beyond standard classroom material. Participants work through timed problem sets that emphasize critical thinking, logical reasoning, and creative problem-solving—skills that are essential for success in advanced mathematics and STEM fields.
