Jack Cust Jr. ’97 has officially been inducted into the exclusive NJSIAA 28th Hall of Fame, cementing his legacy as one of the most dominant players in New Jersey baseball history.

Few careers have ever been bookended the way his was. In his very first at bat as a freshman, Cust launched a grand slam. In his final high school game, he delivered two home runs in the Non Public A state final, including one in his last at bat. In between, he built a career that put him among the elite, earning First Team All American honors, New Jersey Player of the Year, and All Century recognition while finishing with a remarkable .580 career batting average, 31 home runs, and 128 RBIs.

His dominance forced teams to pitch around him, drawing 48 walks as a senior, 20 intentional, yet he still hit .592 with 15 home runs and a staggering 1.487 slugging percentage. That excellence led to him becoming a first round MLB Draft pick by the Arizona Diamondbacks and launching a 10 year major league career as one of the game’s premier power hitters.

Cust’s impact goes far beyond his playing days. Through Diamond Nation, he has helped shape the future of baseball in New Jersey, providing opportunities for tens of thousands of young athletes to develop and compete at a high level.

A legendary career. A lasting impact. A Spartan forever.
