M3 Math Challenge Team Advances to 2nd Round

Congratulations to our team of Seniors, all students in Mrs. Petsu’s AP Calculus class, who were just notified that they have been chosen to advance to the 2nd round of the MathWorks Math Modeling (M3) Challenge. The team, Captain, Sam Jaskolski, Michael Blandino, Jack Kerekes, Mica Norton, and Joe Sapone, worked collaboratively over a 14 hour period earlier this month to model turnover from diesel to electric trucks and analyze infrastructure, economic and environmental implications.

Participation in the M3 Challenge allows students to experience working as a team to solve a real-world problem under time and resource constraints.

A total of 760 teams participated in the challenge, with 145 advancing to the 2nd round; these teams remain contenders for a team prize of between $1,000 and $20,000.

The team should learn if they will advance to the semi-final round by the end of this month.
