24 Spartan alumni, faculty and staff, and Spartans of the Year were remembered on November 10
Somerville, N.J., November 10, 2024– On November 10, 2024, Immaculata High School hosted
its annual Spartan Memorial Mass, a special liturgy dedicated to honoring deceased Spartans.
With 300 attendees, alumni, their families, friends, and community members gathered to pay
tribute to loved ones, faculty, peers, Guardian Angels, and members of the Spartan community
who have returned to our Lord.
The liturgy was celebrated by Monsignor Joseph Celano, pastor of the Church of the Immaculate
Conception and director of its two parish schools. 24 members of the Immaculata family and 16
Guardian Angels were remembered by name in the mass program. The school’s music program
provided vocal and instrumental accompaniment. Family and friends of recently departed loved
ones honored them by placing blue and white carnations at the altar.
Colleen Paras, Director of Campus Ministry and an Immaculata alumna, shared that her purpose
as an educator is to teach in the ways of Christ, reflecting the love and compassion of the
universal Church– a calling she finds a daily blessing.
The Guardian Angel Scholarship Fund is one way Immaculata serves its community. Gifts made
in memory of loved ones are directed to this fund, which helps students in need of financial
assistance attend the school. Colleen commented, “It is with great pride in our community that I
announce our efforts have not gone unnoticed. We have been able to assist students in need,
offering them the opportunity to join our family-like community and receive a strong Catholic
education. I am proud to be a member of this community”.
