IHS Students Visit Rowan University Fossil Park for Hands-On Experience
Posted 12/13/2016 10:25PM

Select Immaculata students from the elite Marian Scholars program, AP Biology, and AP Art History spent the day at the Rowan University Fossil Park. First, they were given mini lessons by a Micropaleontologist on "How a Fossil is Made" and "Constructing a Dichotomous Key" before they set off down the quarry to find fossils of their own. Once they made the trek down the slippery terrain, they learned about the quarry history from Dr.Lacovara, a paleontologist known internationally for his discovery of a 65- ton dinosaur. The group ended up with quite a collection of various size fossils! The Rowan Fossil Quarry presents fossils from the Cretaceous Period and offers student visitors a great STEM educational experience.
