What is the HSPT?

The High School Placement Test (HSPT) is an assessment used by many Catholic high schools throughout the country and a required part of the admissions process for high schools in the Diocese of Metuchen. The exam is approximately 2.5 hours long. The format of the test is multiple choice with one short essay. Students are tested on reading, sentence completion, verbal skills, spelling and vocabulary, and quantitative skills. Students can only take the HSPT one time so thorough preparation is critical. The HSPT Prep course offered at Immaculata High School prepares students for all areas of the exam.

This year’s Prep course will offer two options:

HSPT Testing & Early Acceptance: Attend the HSPT Prep course this summer and take the HSPT on the last day of the course (Friday, August 4). Students who select this option and complete the Application for Admission to the Class of 2028 by August 4 will receive their admissions decision by the end of August. This option is for students who have made Immaculata their First Choice High School. Please note that offers of admission and/or academic merit scholarships made through the Early Acceptance Program must be accepted by November 1.

Pre-HSPT & Regular Admissions Program: Attend the HSPT Prep course this summer and take the Pre-HSPT on the program’s last day (Friday, August 4). This option is best for students who would like more time to prepare for the HSPT while introducing how the exam will be administered and what to expect on the actual day of testing in the fall. Students selecting this option will need to take the HSPT on one of these dates: Saturday, November 4, Friday, November 10, or Saturday, November 11 and will receive their admissions decision in late December.

Parents will be emailed in early July to select their testing option.
