Head Coach

Rodney Van Ness

Rodney Van Ness serves as the Head Wrestling Coach and a Physical Education and Driver’s Education teacher at Immaculata High School. He was hired to lead Immaculata’s newly launched varsity wrestling program, which officially began competition in the 2023–2024 academic year. As the program’s first head coach, Coach Van Ness brings exceptional experience, leadership, and vision to Spartan athletics.

With more than 23 years of coaching experience as a volunteer, assistant, and co-head coach, Coach Van Ness has dedicated his career to developing student-athletes on and off the mat. As a competitor, he is a former New Jersey State Medalist and a two-time NCAA Division I National Qualifier for Rutgers University—earning recognition as one of the state’s premier wrestling talents.

Wrestling excellence runs in the family: his son is currently the No. 1–ranked 149 lb wrestler in the nation and serves as a team captain for Penn State University.

Coach Van Ness continues to build Immaculata Wrestling with a strong foundation rooted in discipline, character, and competitive spirit.
