During our annual Stewardship Recognition Mass, we take the opportunity to recognize Immaculata’s Spartan of the Year. This award was first presented in 1968 to an individual who provided dedicated, hard work over many years for the benefit of our school. The award has continued annually since then, and so today, we add to this group a person who also demonstrates these qualities with humility, kindness and joy.
After having served throughout their time as a parent at Immaculate Conception School as the HSA vice-president and then President, co-chair of Trunk Night, chair of “Ornaments of Love” and Bingo night, class parent, team parent and assistant basketball coach, they brought this gift of serving to Immaculata and immediately jumped right in to help - - and has not stopped.
Our recipient has consistently served Immaculata in a variety of ways for the past five years, from being an IHS tour guide for prospective students and parents, assisting at multiply events with hospitality, including Freshman registration, hosting and coordinating sport team dinners, to being co-chair of the Immaculata Fashion Show for 5 years. With all that these events entailed during these past couple of years of cancellations and modifications, our recipient served with determination, dedication and a friendly smile to ensure that they were memorable and successful. She even willingly has served as part of the clean-up crew of Immaculata’s massive garage sale…a task meant for only the dedicated and energetic!
In addition to serving our school community, our recipient has served both boy and girl scouting in various positions over the years and is currently serving as a Board of Review member for the Boy Scouts.
As a representative of the past Spartans of the Year, I am confident that Immaculata will continue to be blessed by this spirit of faithful, dedicated and joyful service while she is a parent at Immaculata and beyond. It is with a great deal of pleasure that I introduce you to the 2022 Spartan of the Year, Mrs. Susan Billups. Congratulations, Susan!
