Black Student Union

Immaculata High School’s Black Student Union (BSU), is organized to support Black students and give them a safe and supportive space to discuss their ideas, cultures, and difficulties. BSU promotes positive communication between all students and faculty at Immaculata regarding issues of race, particularly instances of prejudice and discrimination and what can be done to combat them. BSU is committed to intellectual, cultural, social and ethnic diversity.

The mission of the Black Student Union is to empower, inspire and acknowledge African American students by promoting unity and awareness about their cultures throughout the IHS community. BSU will promote an atmosphere of respect and understanding, and create an environment where unity and diversity are of the utmost importance in seeking to address racial conflicts and build a firm foundation in the student and the local community. BSU inclusively works to bring cultural awareness and positive racial relations by promoting mutual respect for all cultures.

The Vision of the Black Student Union intends to build a positive mosaic focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion. BSU strives to foster a sense of community for all students and faculty by providing an opportunity for students to express their views concerning current events, race relations, academics, cultural arts, and campus life.

The goal of the Black Student Union is to create a safe space to foster unity through promoting academic, social and racial/cultural awareness and to support each other in achieving success both in and out of school.
