Coach BuryBury

Bringing an impressive background to the Spartan position, Coach Bury started The Central Jersey Fillies Organization in 2009 with the philosophy that “our 'team' truly puts the girls first.” The goal was to provide a safe, honest, competitive atmosphere, where players can continue to grow both on and off the field. In that role he has coached softball 9-10 months a year.

Coach Bury has coached against some of the top Travel Teams on the East Coast at The Showcase Level in front of countless college coaches. “The feedback I have received from college coaches has been very gratifying. It’s the love of the game and coaching young people that motivate all coaches, so it is positive when your peers recognize you and your team.”

Last season Coach Bury took on his first high school coaching assignment at Villa Walsh Academy. “Our record was not what we were hoping for, but I felt that my players grew as athletes and individuals, which, of course, is so important.”

When the Immaculata softball coaching opportunity became available, Bury connected with Athletic Director Tom Gambino. “Tom and I both share the same passion for the game and the vision of the significant role of athletics in the high school experience. We both understand that high school sports provide so many life lessons in teamwork, work ethic, and the need for persistence and tenacity for success.”

“Immaculata also appealed to me as a dad and long-time coach. because academics and faith are so strongly emphasized,” says Coach Bury. “As a traveling coach, I talked to many colleges about my players. Athletic skills are key, but the deciding factor for these coaches is the classroom. If they can’t succeed on the academic side of college, they can’t compete on the field. In addition, my daughter went to Catholic high school and college, so I know the importance, especially today, of learning and competing in a faith-based environment.”

Athletic Director Tom Gambino is thrilled with the addition of Coach Bury to the staff. “Coach Bury is well connected with softball coaches on the college level. His reputation as a developer of talent and his strong commitment to academics and the mission of our school makes him a great choice to lead our Spartan Softball program. He will make us Spartan Proud.”
