Prospective Music Students

Frequently Asked Questions

What are all of the performing groups you offer?
Concert Band (Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble), Marching Band, Spartan Choir, A Capella Choir, Chamber Choir, Indoor Percussion, Spring Musical, Music Ministry, and Jazz Band.

Will I miss any academic classes through participation in music (usually referred to as a pull-out program)?
No. Music is a scheduled class within the school day. It is an elective and replaces Physical Education. Music is a regular class that receives a grade and credit like any other subject. There are CP and Honors level classes and placement in those classes is by audition.

Do you offer other music classes other than band classes?
Yes we do! We offer Music Theory, 1 & 2, AP Theory, A Capella Choir (H), Music in Film, Music Appreciation & Technology, and Independent Music.

Do I have to be in the Marching Band if I want to take music?
No. However, it is strongly encouraged! It is a fun and exciting activity that is unlike any other in the school. Get involved in high school—it will be worth your while!

Do I have to already know how to play an instrument to participate in the music program?
No. We teach many students new instruments every year. We will teach any band instrument that a student wants to play.
