Student Council

In harmony with the school philosophy, the purpose of the Student Council shall be:

  • To serve as the official body for the expression of student opinion.
  • To promote student morale, school spirit, and general welfare of the student body.
  • To foster leadership and student involvement in school and community affairs.
  • To assist the faculty and administration in developing school policies pertaining to student behavior and dress.
  • To provide democratic school government through representation and participation of the student body in school affairs.

The Student Council shall be composed of an Executive Board elected in May of the previous school year and two representatives from each homeroom elected during the first full weeks of school.

STUDENT COUNCIL EVENTS

Each year, the Student Council sponsors many school events. From blood drives to dress-down days and socials to the much anticipated Spartan Spirit, the Student Council officers work hard to create school events that not only promote school spirit but also school unity. Here is just a sample of some of our Student Council-sponsored events.

LEADERSHIP WORKSHOP

The Immaculata Student Council Executive Board Members are required to attend a Leadership Training Conference (LTC) held each July at the College of New Jersey, sponsored by the New Jersey Association of Student Councils (NJASC). This three-day leadership skills camp unites members throughout the State to learn communication skills, public speaking skills, fund-raising projects, budgeting and event planning. In turn, our students meet every September with students from all grades for a leadership skills mini-camp of their own. This two-hour meeting is the first step in running for student government positions at Immaculata.

DRESS DOWN DAYS

Students look forward to those special times throughout the year when they can leave their uniforms at home and wear their own clothes to school. These days are not just for students, but for those who are in need. Students make a donation to participate in dress-down day. The money raised is then given to a designated organization in need. 'Dress down days' give students the opportunity to show off their individual styles while helping those who are less fortunate.

CLASS SOCIALS

Each class is invited to their own night of fun and festivities. Socials give classmates the opportunity to get to know each other in an environment less intimidating than the school hallways and help to create a unified school environment.

SPARTAN SPIRIT

Experiencing the thrill of Spartan Spirit is a feeling a Spartan never forgets. It is unlike any other school event. Every February, the Immaculata Student Council sponsors this week-long event characterized by school spirit, fun, silliness, and camaraderie.

Each class is assigned a color with which it has to develop a theme. In keeping with the theme students decorate lockers and homeroom doors, and create t-shirts, skits and cheers. Competitions throughout the week include penny wars and a food drive, with each event awarding classes with Spirit points.

The week culminates on Spartan Spirit Night when the school comes together for a night of friendly competition and endless fun with each class determined to come out on top. The envied prize—a casual dress down day for the winning team
